Version 2 Project Diary

  • 2018-11-11; Working up daily timelapse movies process; see an example here.
  • 2018-11-11; Debugging the weather radar app. See a screen grab here.
  • 2018-11-10; Process figured out for the planned daily timelapse movie. Each movie will consist of 9 images captured by the Cork Harbour Weather Weather Cam; dawn, sunrise, mid-morning, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, dusk and midnight. I've been manually collating data since October 28th and have a mountain of historic daily imagery I'll have to work through over the coming months. Now that I've the process bottomed out, I've to work out how to automate it and once that's done, then code it up.
  • 2018-11-09; a first alpha version of the Cork weather radar data app has gone live. Once we've debugged it and added a few necessary features, it'll be available from this site.
  • 2018-11-04; Style for new website adopted and first pages started (Home & About)
  • 2018-11-04; Cobh Weather station put back online.
  • 2018-11-04; https (SSL) considered for web server. Parked for now as no sensitive data flows across the connection and the costs involved aren't trivial...
  • 2018-11-03; All files transferred from old weather server. Review makes clear a total rebuild of the backend (MySQL database, PHP code base etc.) will be required. All archived data is catalogued.
  • 2018-11-03; Weather Cam put back online.
  • 2018-11-03; Sorted out shared folder connection between Windows 10 PC and Ubuntu VM hosting web server to enable dynamically generating/updating files on Windows 10 PC to be immediately available to the web server. Such files include weather cam images and weather station latest data files etc.
  • 2018-11-03; Weather Cam re-instated. 5 minute snapshots for now with images for dawn, sunrise, mid-morning, noon, afternoon, sunset, dusk and midnight being archived for each day.
  • 2018-10-29; New LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP) web server set up on a VirtualBox virtual machine (VM).
  • 2018-10-18; New Windows 10 PC set up as main computing hardware for the version 2 project.
  • 2018-10-20; Two Davis Vantage Pro2 weather stations serviced; one used to keep the other going. Unit 2 re-instated for Winter-Spring 2018-2019 but will have to be replaced next Spring.
